Valuable embroidery from Vietnam
In Van Ly, a village near Hanoi, former rice farmers produce very precious objects. Each item is unique. They embroider beautiful flowers, ornaments or the ancient Vietnamese symbol for “double happiness”. In Asian countries, embroidery has a long tradition, but in the course of time it got lost. The women in Van Ly have been trained in this handicraft again and have meanwhile become great artists. With much love and quick hands, they create enchanting flowers, blooms and tendrils. Moreover, many products are decorated with hemstich embroidery. You will not only see the women’s great attention to detail, you will feel it when sliding your fingers over the fine cloth with its filigree ornaments. This tableware will adorn your table. Matching napkins and table sets are available. Through their embroidery work, the women earn 30 euros per month. Considering the fact that the average annual income amounts to 240 euros, this is a lot of money. The embroidery work has helped the rice farmers to overcome poverty. They can send their children to school and no longer need to leave their village during the harvest period.
The revenues from the sales of the products are used for the construction of a pre-school in Tu Nhan in the north of Vietnam.
