And it was young female students who founded Maheela's roof organization, Women's Foundation of Nepal (WFN), over 30 years ago. The goal was and is to protect women: From domestic violence , from poverty and from social isolation. To do this, they need to be independent and to become independent they need their own income. With the production of high-quality scarves, which are sold worldwide, Maheela has succeeded in doing all this. Many women have been able to build a new existence for themselves and their children thanks to the Maheela cooperative. The money generated by Maheela also makes it possible to provide a solid education, microcredits, legal aid and scholarships for poor children. Help is also provided in times of urgent need: WFN's women's shelters offer a safe home to more than 150 women and their children.
